Am I really doing this...again? aka WEEK 1

Yup.

If you're interested, here's the scoop concerning this contest:


  • We begin on January 7th. You weigh in once a week and do it the same way each time. IE: same day (Mondays), time of day (morning), clothed/unclothed (PJs), full/hungry (before breakfast); whichever it is, you must stick to the same time/way as to make it fair. Otherwise we’ll have people weighing in after Sunday supper, fully clothed and in their ski boots the first week and then utterly naked the last week after a 24 hour fast.
  • The first week you’ll be at a 0%. After that you’ll take the total pounds you’ve lost and divide it by the weight you were when the contest started. Multiply the number by 100 (or move the decimal over two places) and this gives you your percentage. This will be the number you report to me. At no time do you need to tell me what you actually weigh.
  • There is no need to weigh in until I receive your money ($50). You’re not officially in the contest until I have your money. If I get it after January 7, you will begin that day and continue the consecutive Mondays after that.
  • You can enter the contest through January 28 . The contest lasts until April 1st (even if you enter late). No entries after Jan 28.
  • We will keep track of everyone’s progress via a blog (http://www.losingtenpercent.blogspot.com ). This is why you need to send me an alias – to protect everyone's privacy. I’ll try and post updates every week as I receive them from you. I’ll do my best to remind you with an email.
  • If you meet your goal of 10% you will win the pool (the money in its entirety put in by everyone minus a 5% finder’s fee I will be taking for time/energy). If someone else also meets their goal, you’ll split it with them. If you do not reach your goal, you forfeit your $50. There is no “ultimate winner”. This gives everyone the opportunity to earn back his or her own money (it also keeps people honest).
  • If you are a woman, you cannot join unless you are at least 3 months postpartum.
  • If you don’t weigh in for 3 consecutive weeks, you are kicked out of the contest and forfeit your money.
  • There are no prescription pills or medical procedures allowed (this also includes HCG!). This is a rather gray area and I’m not sure how to draw a line. If you want to use crazy over-the-counter things…. be crazy. I just can’t be blamed for you doing stupid things to your body/health over a $50 contest. Please don’t be stupid. If you have questions, feel free to contact me.
  • There are two separate contests going. One for women, another for men. The difference in success rates between men and women is just too dramatic.
  • Have fun. A contest isn’t a contest if there isn’t some smack talk.
  • Please do your best to have your percentage to me every Monday by noon.
